Hoodwinked Again

Jack typically ends his bedtime books with the request of, "Rub me. With fingernails."

Last night I was too tired to do any kind of back scratching. So I told him, to much protesting by him, "Not tonight, buddy. I'm just too tired."

Here's how it went about 30 seconds later:

Jack: I have an itch on my back.
Me, beginning to scratch in the middle of his back: Where is it?
Jack: You have to scratch under my shirt or you won't get it.
Me, scratching under his shirt: Did I get it yet?
Jack: Up, up, up, left, left, left, down, down, down, right, right, right, up, up, up, left, left, left.

After two minutes, I finally realized that the kid had tricked me into giving him his rub with fingernails after all. See? Told you I was tired.

Never underestimate the power of a back rub with fingernails or the cleverness of a child.

We have done the back scratch thing with our children since they were babies. But we knew we had a problem when the little ones would walk up to us while we were watching TV, sit down next to us then lift up the back of their shirt a little.

Jack is smart enough to trick you... our kids aren't there YET.

Too cute! Sneaky little booger! ;)

By the way, I think I teased my hair up into rock band hair once, but for the most part, I spent the late 80's, early 90's with little interest in how I looked, I think my mom was relieved if my clothes matched.

Kids are so smart! They kill me, they really do!!!

This is actually a tactic my hubby uses all the time. I'm sure J will learn it in no time!

BUT, when I ask for a back scratch, I'm lucky to get one swipe. Ugh.
