Deck the Halls

We put our Christmas decorations up over the weekend. Usually I am very excited about this task. This year, however, it just felt a little overwhelming and I was tempted not to do it at all. Once I started it became a little easier and I was happy to be doing it. But, with so much to do to get ready for the holidays, I delegated a minuscule amount of decorating to John and the boys. Here is what we ended up with:

Me

Boys

Me

Boys:

(By the way, that hanger has been there since the Carmex Experiment)

When we worked together, we did this:

This was the first year that Jack and Luke really helped with the tree. Luke pretended to be a snake and crawled along the floor around and under the tree to make sure that if snakes come in our house they would be able to see ornaments. Jack hung two ornaments per branch so they would not be lonely. It’s funny how their personality differences come through, even when hanging ornaments.

Beautiful!! I was the smae way this year about the decorations. Once I started though it was fun. Now I just dread takeing it all down =).

I love the snake thing!! I'm glad the snakes will be able to enjoy the decorations!

You did a great job delegating! :) If you had delegated the other jobs, would you have gone back and 'fixed' them later? Did you leave the garland over the window like they left it, or did you 'fix' it?

I'm glad the ornaments won't get too lonely. I try to space mine out to keep them from bickering over who's getting the most attention. :)

After John read my blog, he hung the garland on the banister and it looks lovely.

I love decorations on the chandelier!

You know my decorating looks a bit more like the boys than yours! ;)

Yes this is the first year that my boys have taken an [tiny] interest in the tree.

Love to see their different reactions.
Best wishes

Heather, ROFL. I love that bit about the hanger since the carmex experiment!!! I needed a good giggle today. I love the ornaments from the light fixture, I may borrow that, if you don't mind. That's not copyrighted, eh? I love how Jack hung two on each branch. Gavin and Grant each have an ornament for every year of life from my mom plus some others along the way. THEY LOVE getting them out and looking at them. Grant wants to take them all over. He broke one this year, I found one on the dining room table and they were scattered all over and under the tree. Gavin's were all within a branch or on the same branch from each other so he would know which were his and where they were when he looked at the tree.

KEEP BELIEVING
PS I am glad you liked my analogy, that is the closest thing I could think of to put it into perspective that most could relate to.

Lovely - and about 90% more decorating than we have managed. We have a tree up and decorated. That's it. The boys did help a fair bit though, especially putting the martian on top. Well, we couldn't have a fairy could we, in our MDH!

It looks great. You are much further than we are!

I am seriously having trouble getting motivated. This post helped. Thanks.

Your decorations are really pretty. My son broke 2 of the Christmas bulbs so at least all of yours remained in tact. :-)

Great job!

Everyone has me beat. We are moving four days before Christmas so my house is covered in boxes rather than decorations! Great job, I'm sure my kids would be even less help, LOL

I LOVE the picture holder above the window - where'd you get it? Any out-of-reach decorations are the best IMO. You are a brave woman... we have the tree up, but no ornaments yet. With Sam almost 18 mos it's going to be a hassle...
